Last week my blog focused on the 4 questions I encourage you to ask yourself before creating New Year's Resolutions. You can find it here!
If you know anything about me you know that I never give advice I wouldn't implement myself. So this week I decided to shake up my normal blogging routine and give you a peek behind the curtain of my 2021!
1) What Has Changed In The Past Year?
This year was a big year of change for me. I started Talent Career Coaching while working full time in the corporate sector. My plan was to juggle both until I felt ready to make the leap and 2021 was that year! In April, I decided to jump full time into running my own businesses. My client load went from 1-2 clients per month to over 100 appointments this year. What a change!
Do I miss the team environment? Of course! I miss having people in my corner who can understand the exact challenges I am facing. That being said, I have also made some AMAZING friends in the entrepreneur space.
Do I miss having set days off and scheduled vacation time where I can still get paid? Absolutely! I don't know if that will ever change.
But I really love building something from scratch, enabling it to grow, and being challenged in ways I never imagined. It's been quite the year!
2) What Are You Most Proud Of?
As I reflect back on this past year I think the thing that makes me the most proud is how much I have grown in 12 months. I started 2021 burned out. I had built both a professional career and entrepreneur lifestyle that were incredibly demanding.
Let me tell you, coming back from burn out is one of the hardest things you will ever do.
This year I really learned how to identify the things that bring me joy, how to take care of myself first before helping others, and how saying "no" is the most powerful tool you have to say "yes" to the things that make life wonderful.
3) What Did You Learn This Year?
Trust my gut.
Health isn't guaranteed.
Time is the most precious resource I have and I better use it well.
Ask for help. It's not a weakness.
Just because you don't know how to do something today doesn't mean you can't learn the skill for tomorrow.
And the biggest lesson I am still learning is patience. Patience in understanding that building something from scratch takes time. Patience in knowing that consistency will be the key to success. And patience in knowing that growth is not always linear.
4) What Are You Most Excited For In 2022?
Finding my groove! This year, while not my first year in business, has felt like the first year again. Scaling a business from a side hustle to a full time gig requires more tech, intention, education, and problem solving. A lot of this year felt like pulling a string on a never ending ball of yarn. Just about the time I think I have found a solution, mores string unravels and I am on to the next challenge. I know that it's naive to think this year will be smooth sailing, but my hope is that this year I find more of a rhythm to the never ending challenges I face as the business continues to grow and scale.
I hope you have enjoyed a little peak behind the curtain on my 2021 and maybe a few of my reflections resonated with your own experience.
