I talk with clients every day about their careers. Some days we are talking about how great their career is going, how passionate they are about their work, and how excited they are for the next challenge!
Other days I hear my clients admit they are frustrated with their daily tasks, they are not sure where their career is headed, and they feel stuck in their current role.
It doesn't have to be this way!
And in my opinion, it shouldn't. You are worth so much more than just going through the motions in your career. You deserve to have a job that aligns with your values, gives you purpose, and encourages you to be a lifelong learner.
Do any of these scenarios sound like you...
I loved my job when I first started, but lately I have been feeling bored.
Maybe you need a new challenge? Feeling stagnant in your career doesn't mean you have to switch fields, change companies, or start a whole new chapter.
What if we created a plan to find new learning opportunities? What if you were able to dedicate time each week to learning about new technology in your field? What if you decided to become an expert in an area that excites you? What if you spent time each month helping young people learn more about your career field? There are so many options when it comes to creating a new challenge for ourselves!
I thought if I kept working hard that I would find my way.
Many of us find ourselves working in careers that are familiar to us. Usually a parent, sibling, friend, or someone in our network introduced us to the industry. As time has gone on you have realized that you are not passionate about this career path. You have established yourself as an expert, but you just aren't interested in the type of work you are doing.
Can you imagine what it would be like if you worked in an industry you were passionate about? How much more of an expert could you be? What would it feel like to be excited about the work you were doing and it made you want to learn more? There are so many career fields out there. If you are not aligned with the work you are doing let's find something that fits your values, interests, and passions!
My career has changed and I no longer like what I'm doing.
We aren't the same people we were 10 years ago and we can't expect our careers or employers to stay the same either.
Sometimes the change we see is in our roles and responsibilities. The job description has changed due to a shift in technology or structure of the organization. Other times the change happens with our employer. The people in charge have shifted and as a result the values they once had have shifted, too. These are all normal evolutions of careers.
What if you could work for a company that valued the same things you value today? What if you could have a role that includes more of the tasks you enjoy rather than the tasks that are mundane? What if you could make a shift into something that aligns more with the person you have become? These things can happen! There are so many options when it comes to career fields and employers.
Here is what I want you to know:
Please don't settle! We all deserve to have careers that ignite our creativity and passion.
